Restoration using traditional methods and traditional materials

Restoration of a antique clock case is undertaken using traditional methods. All timbers used are of the correct period.

We restore antique clock movements in exactly the same way as when they were made with the added help of modern machine tools.

Our aim in the restoration of long case clock cases is that even an expert will find it hard or impossible to know which item has been replaced.

We undertake face painting and clock re-silvering in exactly the same fashion as when they were originally made.

Dial and Clock face Restoration.

We at Green and cockburn paint clock dials in the same way as when they were made using pant and pigments of the period,we also copy the original artists naive techniques.
On scottish dials we lay gold leaf as per the original dial.

We specialise in long case clock and fusee movements

We carry out comprehensive repair of movements, in particular our specialty being long case and fusee movements. The restoration process in such a movement would involve the following:

Disassembling the piece
Cleaning
Repairing missing parts (all broken parts are replaced and remade)
Reassembling then thorough testing

We undo previous clock repair, restoration faults

Repairing Antique Clock Movement Many of the antique clocks we restore arrive at our workshop in appalling condition - some long case and other clock restoration issues we experience. We come across quite a lot of antique clocks that have been "repaired" in an in-appropriate manner and we often have to undo these poor repairs when we restore clocks to their former glory.

We acknowledge the fact that aesthetically you will want your timepiece to remain in it's period, and we have the experience to carry this out. Woodworm is cured, missing parts are replaced and wood is crafted from matching timbers.

This is a particularly interesting front plate of a long case clock where you can see the scribe marks made by the maker these marks we used for working out the wheel ratios, this front plate is signed and numbered number 63 and dated January 1776
